There’s been much excitement recently at the Players Theatre, as the first stage of our theatre’s development plan to ‘Re-Light My Frontage’ has begun.
The plan includes a giant sized illuminated Players Theatre sign high up on the front elevation of the historic building, plus two vertical illuminated Players Theatre signs to the left and right.

Planning permission was granted for the signage in the spring of 2022, but it has taken some time for us as owners of the historic building, to finance the cost of the signage. Fund raising activities have included one off performance events, raffles at The Lowestoft Players’ productions, a £1 Theatre Levy for ticket sales, donations from members of the public and generous contributions from East Suffolk councillors.
“We really wanted people passing by to see us” said Martin Wilson, who takes responsibility for the development of the Players Theatre.
“Although, the signage it’s not quite finished yet, already the public are beginning to notice!”

The signage was designed by Stephen Wilson, long standing member of The Lowestoft Players. It was manufactured and erected by Fitt Signs of Norwich. The name ‘Re-Light My Frontage’ for the scheme follows the society’s successful Crowdfunding appeal to Re-Light My Fire in 2020. This was to fund the cost of a new environmentally friendly air management system to warm and cool the building.
In addition to an external transformation the Theatre is currently undergoing an internal festive-themed make-over for our production of Elf the Musical which opens on 29th September.
“Yes, we know it’s a little early for Christmas” said Nick Garrod, Chair of The Lowestoft Players and Director of Elf “But we really are pulling out all of the stops to ensure that our audiences have an unforgettable and magical experience with us.”
Elf will be performed at the Players Theatre, Battery Green Road, Lowestoft from Friday 29th to Sunday 1st October and Friday 6th October to Sunday 8th October 2023.
