Rehearsals for the multi-award winning Lowestoft Players’, soon to be staged and much anticipated annual Pantomime are well underway.
There’s much excitement amongst the cast of 24 adults, 12 children and two juniors, as it will be the first time ever that the society has performed the title of Goldilocks and The Three Bears – The Players have been entertaining the people of Lowestoft and beyond for well over 50 years!
We’ve been catching up with Chris Tanton-Willis who will be playing the role of Dame Betty Big Top - The Panto has a circus theme, hence the rather cheeky play on words for his character’s title!
“I played an ugly sister in last year’s production of Cinderella” Chris explained. “Excuse the pun, but I really did have such a ball so when the opportunity arose for me to audition for a similar role again this year! I thought to myself ‘well, I’ll have to

By day Chris, 42 years, is busy working in local government so being on stage dressed as a Dame is a complete change for him!
But why all of the additional cuddly bears? We thought there would just be three played by humans – Daddy Bear (Jimmy Atkin), Mummy Bear (Emily Simpson) and Baby Bear (Ellie Rodgers).
“I’ve been told that these little cuties are going to make an extra special appearance in the show, but I am not allowed to tell you in what form! I have grown quite attached to them..."
Chris Tanton-Willis will be on stage, along with the rest of the talented Goldilocks and The Three Bears cast from 18th to 26th January 2025 at The Marina Theatre, Lowestoft.
As always with Players’ pantos, there will be cheery song and dance, the staging and costumes will be bright and colourful, plus the production will contain much-loved slapstick, audience participation, and an abundance of cheesy jokes!
