Flash, bang, wallop – what a picture!

It's been announced that the title role of Arthur Kipps for our forthcoming production of Kipps, the new Half A Sixpence musical, will be played by the very talented Alex Bracey. Known to many as B.U. Double T.O.N.S following his on stage debut with us for our recent pantomime Cinderella.

Singing UB40’s Homely Girl since he was five at his Grandad’s social club at the request of his Aunty, playing the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz in year 6 at school and then an ancient Irish cook named Salmonella in year 7, Alex then moved to TV where he played Wilbur in a school musical production of Hairspray. Apparently Alex’s Hairspray performance can still be found by searching the Internet.

Originally from London, Alex studied musical theatre at Essex University, Colchester.

He moved to Lowestoft in 2022 where he now works as a Learning Support Assistant in a local school. He’s totally mad on football and can frequently been found at the Crown Meadow supporting Lowestoft Town FC.

Taken from the novel Kipps: The Story of a Simple Soul by H.G. Wells, the musical is based on the themes of wealth and class. It was made into a film in 1967 staring Tommy Steele as Arthur Kipps.

We asked Alex how he thinks he compares to Tommy Steele?

“We have the same accent!” he replied. “I’m also naturally cheerful and energetic, just like Tommy Steele.”

And what are you most excited about being in this production?

“I can’t wait to sing all those wonderful and iconic songs, but I’m really looking forward to dancing, although I haven’t done any serious dancing for some time!”

Our production of Kipps – The New Half a Sixpence Musical will be performed at the Players Theatre, Battery Green Lowestoft from 7th to 15th June. Tickets are available from www.playerstheatre.infoor by contacting the Box Office on 01502 770020.
